Bringing art to public spaces in Summit

Current Installations

Since 2004, Public Arts/Summit has installed almost thirty works of contemporary sculpture at various public locations around the city. These locations include the grounds of city hall, various parks and open spaces, and downtown mini parks.

The installations offer the opportunity for accidental encounters between people and art they might not see if it were not installed in a public place. We hope this enhances the lives of Summit's residents, as well as of people who come to Summit to work, to shop, to eat, to worship, or just to visit.

Works currently on display are shown on this page. Click on any image for a larger view and more information on the work.

Funding for installation of temporary art has been made possible in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment of the Arts, through a grant administered by the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.

Although it is a city entity, Summit Arts receives no funding from the city for acquisitions or operations. It raises money through personal donations and public and private grants. As of the end of 2007, Summit Arts had raised more than $105,000 to support its projects. Summit’s department of community services provides staff support.
